Muntalaq Station

LOCATION: JEDDAH, KSA
USE: TRANSPORTATION
Scope: EVENT & FAÇADE LIGHTING DESIGN

The structure was interpreted as a three-dimensional object with no traditional distinction between elevations and roof. As the focal point of a large development, it can be seen from various perspectives and has become a landmark in the city’s life.

The program suggested movement, and movement suggested change. The skin of the building shifts in response to these changes throughout the day (night). The facade lighting is used to communicate with the city.

Our proposal was based on two architectural concept elements: the palm and the dunes.

The bridge was lit in the pattern of a palm leaf, with the light intensifying in the nerve and fading out along the leaves. The cables were lit from above, giving the structure a nighttime appearance and revealing its rhythm. The main arch was illuminated to serve as a visual anchor and identifier.
