Description
LOCATION: DUBAI, UAE
USE: WORSHIP
Scope: INTERNAL & FAÇADE LIGHTING DESIGN
It is the largest mosque in Dubai, and it can accommodate 2000 worshippers. It is located in the Al Wasl residential area. Its design is influenced by Istanbul’s Blue Mosque. The interior is adorned with the most exquisite geometric designs and glazed tile patterns, created by Moroccan craftsmen who were specially flown in for this task.
Our job was to improve on the lighting design that was originally proposed.
We identified several deficiencies in the indoor area in terms of lighting levels and space recognition. As a result, our primary strategies were to increase vertical illuminance on walls, illuminate the central and half domes, and improve lighting in the prayer hall.
To improve the facade at night, we increased the output of the existing uplights, replaced all lamps with cold color temperature lamps, and installed projectors to wash the minarets and top domes. The transformation was dramatic, and the mosque can now be appreciated for the masterpiece that it is.
